Denver Broncos Season Outlook

The Denver Broncos had a pretty irrelevant 2019 season. The Broncos drafted Drew Lock in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft in addition to trading for Joe Flacco in the offseason. It was expected that Flacco would open the season at quarterback and then eventually Drew Lock would take over since there was no intention of winning a Super Bowl in Denver. That is exactly what happened but in a unpredictable fashion. First off, Lock sprained his thumb in a preseason game which sidelined him for awhile. Flacco injured his neck in week 8 but Lock wasn't ready until week 13 so Brandon Allen was forced to fill the role. Flacco went 2-6 in his eight starts, Allon went 1-2 in his three starts, and then Lock went 4-1 in his five starts making the Broncos 7-9 in total. Lock certainly showed potential in those minimal amount of starts so the Broncos are rolling with him this year with hopes he's the quarterback of the future in Denver. The Broncos drafted two very talented wide receivers in the 2020 NFL draft (Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler) so that Lock will have some additional weapons besides Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant. I don't think this is the Broncos year but they certainly headed in the right direction with a talented young core. Below is my regular season prediction for the Denver Broncos.

Week 1: vs. Tennessee Titans - win

Week 2: @ Pittsburgh Steelers - loss

Week 3: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - win

Week 4: @ New York Jets - win

Week 5: @ New England Patriots - loss

Week 6: vs. Miami Dolphins - win

Week 7: vs. Kansas City Chiefs - win

Week 8: Bye Week

Week 9: @ Atlanta Falcons - loss

Week 10: @ Las Vegas Raiders - loss

Week 11: vs. Los Angeles Chargers - win

Week 12: vs. New Orleans Saints - loss

Week 13: @ Kansas City Chiefs- loss

Week 14: @ Carolina Panthers - loss

Week 15: vs. Buffalo Bills - win

Week 16: @ Los Angeles Chargers - win

Week 17: vs. Las Vegas Raiders - win

I think the Broncos will go 9-7 with some very interesting wins and losses. One interesting game to note is in week 3 against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. I think is a very low scoring game in which ultimately the Broncos prevail. I also have them beating the Super Bowl Champion Chiefs at home in week 7. Like I said in my last blog, I think Mahomes is just off in this game and two big interceptions lead the Broncos to victory. Another great win comes in week 15 against the AFC east leading Bills. The under in this game I have a feeling will be a trap. Take the over in what should be a relatively low over/under. However, with some of those qualities wins come disappointing losses. Some of those including the Patriots in week five, Raiders in week 10, and Panthers in week 14. The Broncos have some potential to make the playoffs but with the stacked 10-6 teams, I don't think there's enough room for them this year.

*At the end of this series, once I have gone through every team, I will give my playoff predictions as well as season awards.*
