The Redskins look like they will be no longer the Redskins. I feel like this whole situation just escalated in a matter of hours randomly. For many years there has been talks about changing the name of the Redskins or other sports team such as the Cleveland Indians but over the past few days its gotten real, real fast. Dan Snyder, the majority owner of the Redskins, has repeatedly sworn that he will never change the name as long as he is the owner but this past development may change that. To put it in simple terms, Nike is no longer selling Washington Redskin products.
I think the best part about all of this is that the Redskins have probably gotten the most searches on the Nike website today and that's the first time something like that has ever happened. Just like they say, there's no such thing as bad press. But realistically I think the Redskins do need to sell some of their merch so if Nike is no longer selling it they might be screwed. I don't know anyone who would buy anything on the Nike website because its probably some of the most expensive shit in the universe but people still do. Nike is just the first company to take steps to begin the boycott against the Redskins but they definitely won't be the last. Other Redskins sponsors say they will pull out from the team if they don't change their name. So Mr. Snyder, just change the name. It really isn't that big of a deal anyway. Teams change their names all the time. And if you really think about it, having your team name be a race of people really makes no sense. Like imagine if their was a team called the Seattle Jews or the Tampa Bay Roman Catholics. Its honestly a bit weird. So here are my top 3 suggestions on names to change to...
DC Defenders- Yep, just copy the XFL. Since the XFL is no more you can just steal their name and then have one of the greatest names in the NFL. I guess you might need to buy the name from someone but I think it will be worth the price.
Washington Foxes- Everyone loves a good fox. Foxes are extremely common in the Washington DC area so it only makes sense that they change their name to something that they can relate to and rally behind. Foxes are swift, small, and smart. A perfect name to replace the Redskins.
DC Federalists- This is just a spicy name that draws the attention of the crowd. It is patriotic and remains at the hearts of the lovely fellows of the DC area. Its got a nice ring to it and can even be shortened to the Fedys.
Honorable Mention: Washington Columbuses. Actually no that's probably a bad idea.
