When you were a kid didn't they teach you that practice makes perfect or sometimes practice makes progress? Well, that was not the case with many professional golfers on the PGA Tour today. Today was the opening round of the Memorial Tournament which is played at Muirfield Village Golf Club, the same course as the tournament last week. The cut last week was -2. If there was no second round, the cut this week would be +2. Last week's champion, Colin Morikawa who shot -19 over the entire four rounds shot +4 today. Justin Thomas, last weeks runner up who also shot -19, shot +2. Ian Poulter came in 5th last week by shooting -12 and shot +4 today. Rickie Fowler shot eight under last week and was nine over today. Xander Schauffele shot -10 last week and was +6 today. The list goes on and on. I don't get it. They literally got worse after competing on the same course just this past week. Some players probably may blame their poor performances on the wind. Horrible excuse. Y'all have been playing golf for your whole lives and you have never experienced wind? I'm not buying that. Adjust. Only 24 players sit under par after round one including, five time Memorial Tournament champion, Tiger Woods. He hasn't even played in a PGA Tour event since February 16th. These golfers should be embarrassed about their performances today. Anyway, Tony Finau leads the field at -6 but it is still wide open after just one round. It will be hard for Tony to play as well as he did today and even harder for every other player to play as bad as they did today. By the way, whoever the head marketing guy for the MLB is should be fired. We are now just one week away from baseball and literally nobody in America is aware of this or even cares. I'll see y'all tomorrow. I don't know when but sometime in the next week I'll be writing my MLB predictions out. Stay tuned.
