Gore - Gase: Reunited

Updated: Jul 21, 2020

Yesterday afternoon, the New York Jets signed veteran running back, Frank Gore. Gore who is turning 37 next week, will be entering his 16th season in the NFL. He will be reuniting with his 2008 offensive assistant coach in San Francisco and 2018 head coach in Miami, Adam Gase, who is currently the Jets head coach. Gore should serve as an excellent compliment to former star running back Le'Veon Bell who looks to return to Pro Bowl form after sitting out the full 2018 season and having a mediocre 2019 season at best. Although Gore showed clear signs of regression from 2018 to 2019, he is still a very serviceable backup running back and is well on his way to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Gore is the third all time leading rusher totaling 15,347 yards throughout his career. He currently trails only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton.

Gore should average about 8-12 carries a game this season which gives Bell more than enough rest throughout the game as he is used to being a three down back. I don't think Bell's fantasy value will be hurt that much, because at the end of the day, Bell will get most of the goal line carries as well as carry the workload throughout the game. The fate of this Jets team is unknown at the moment especially with Tom Brady leaving for the Buccaneers, but the one thing that is for sure is we won't be seeing Gore in Canton until at least 2026.
