Los Angeles Chargers Season Outlook

The Chargers went 5-11 last year in what was a pretty forgettable season. I honestly had to check if Philip Rivers got hurt or was benched because he had gone at least 8-8 in 10 of the previous 13 seasons he started. In fact, since Rivers became the starter in San Diego (now Los Angeles)in 2006, he has never missed a start. That is one durable quarterback. However, the Chargers moved on from Rivers this offseason as the Colts signed him to a one year deal worth 25 million dollars. Instead, it looks like the Chargers have trust in their first round pick, Justin Herbert, to lead the team in years to come. I think journeyman, Tyrod Taylor, will get the start in week one and eventually hand over the duties to Herbert. Justin Herbert has Andy Dalton maximum potential in my opinion. Yeah he is a serviceable quarterback that can lead the teams to the playoffs but will never win (a Super Bowl) as a starter. Maybe as a backup someday though just as Andy Dalton has the opportunity to win as a backup for the Dallas Cowboys. Anyway, I think y'all get the gist that I'm not a fan of the pick. The Chargers do have some good players on both sides of the ball but I just don't think they are good enough overall to get anything going this year. However, Chargers fans, if there are any, should be excited for their new uniforms and new stadium. Below is my regular season prediction for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Week 1: @ Cincinnati Bengals - loss

Week 2: vs. Kansas City Chiefs - loss

Week 3: vs. Carolina Panthers - win

Week 4: @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers - loss

Week 5: @ New Orleans Saints - loss

Week 6: vs. New York Jets - loss

Week 7: @ Miami Dolphins - loss

Week 8: vs. Jacksonville Jaguars - win

Week 9: vs. Las Vegas Raiders - win

Week 10: Bye Week

Week 11: @ Denver Broncos - loss

Week 12: @ Buffalo Bills - loss

Week 13: vs. New England Patriots - loss

Week 14: vs. Atlanta Falcons - win

Week 15: @ Las Vegas Raiders - loss

Week 16: vs. Denver Broncos - loss

Week 17: @ Kansas City Chiefs - loss

I have the Chargers finishing the season with a 4-12 record by starting off the year 1-5 which is important because Justin Herbert better be the quarterback by week seven so he can go head to head with Tua and the Dolphins. I think that will be a very competitive game but the Chargers will ultimately lose. Whether is Herbert's first game or not, I think he does have a solid game although Tua will outperform him in the end. One of the best wins for the Chargers will come in week 14 against the Falcons. The Falcons put together a really nice offense this year if Todd Gurley can return to what he used to be but I like the way the Chargers defense matches up against them. This game will be very competitive and I think the Chargers defense gets a stop on a Falcon's potential game winning drive.

*At the end of this series, once I have gone through every team, I will give my playoff predictions as well as season awards.*
