New England Patriots Season Outlook

Updated: Jul 21, 2020

The Patriots dynasty is officially over and every football fan could not be happier. Tom Brady ended his career with the Patriots by throwing a pick six to get upset in the first round of the playoffs. The Patriots shouldn't have even been playing in the first round, but by losing to the Dolphins at home in week 17, they were forced to play on wild card weekend for the first time since 2009. Brady became an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career and now it seems like Bill Belichick and the Pats will be rolling with Jarrett Stidham, the 133rd overall pick in 2019 out of Baylor, as their starting quarterback. Below is my regular season prediction for the New England Patriots.

Week 1: vs. Miami Dolphins - win

Week 2: @ Seattle Seahwaks - loss

Week 3: vs. Las Vegas Raiders - win

Week 4: @ Kansas City Chiefs - loss

Week 5: vs. Denver Broncos - win

Week 6: Bye Week

Week 7: vs. San Francisco 49ers - loss

Week 8: @ Buffalo Bills - loss

Week 9: @ New York Jets - loss

Week 10: vs. Baltimore Ravens - loss

Week 11: @ Houston Texans - loss

Week 12: vs. Arizona Cardinals - loss

Week 13: @ Los Angeles Chargers - win

Week 14: @ Los Angeles Rams - loss

Week 15: @ Miami Dolphins - loss

Week 16: vs. Buffalo Bills - loss

Week 17: vs. New York Jets - win

Clearly, I don't see the Patriots having a great season this year. After a 3-2 start followed by a bye week, I have them losing 6 games in a row, two of which are division opponents and finishing the season at 5-11. I think the Patriots biggest win of the season comes against the Broncos at home in week five. This win will put them back above .500 and give them so momentum heading into the bye week after getting obliterated by the Chiefs the week before. However, they have a tough stretch after the bye week which will ultimately sell the Pats chances making the playoffs. Another interesting game to watch though is when the Patriots play the Rams in Los Angeles in week 14. The Patriots play the Chargers the week before that and the Chargers and Rams do share a stadium. It will be interesting to see if the Patriots go home for the week just to come back to the exact same place. Although I have the Patriots beating the Chargers, I think the Rams will get the best of them this time in a Super Bowl LIII rematch.

*At the end of this series, once I have gone through every team, I will give my playoff predictions as well as season awards.*
