In this blog I will break all the ties and release the official seeding for the NFC. Tomorrow will be an analysis for the wild card round for both conferences. Thursday will be the divisional round. Friday will be the conference championships. Saturday I will announce the season awards and finally on Sunday the Super Bowl Champion will be announced. Make sure to check out all my previous blogs covering each team if you haven't done so already.
NFC East: Cowboys win the division going 13-3. Next best team - Eagles at 8-8
NFC North: Packers win the division going 11-5. Next best team - Vikings at 9-7
NFC South: Saints win the division going 12-4. Next beast team - Buccaneers at 9-7
NFC West: 49ers, Seahawks, and Cardinals all tied at 11-5
The first two seed are clearly locked up in the NFC. The Cowboys earned the one seed meaning they will get a first round bye and the Saints get the two seed. The three seed is up for grabs between the Packers and the winner of the NFC West. The win percentage among one another is tied as they all beat each other once and lose once. However, the Seahawks will win the NFC West because their division record is 4-2 but the 49ers and Cardinals are 3-3. Both the Cardinals and the 49ers have an opportunity to earn a wild card though. Now we need to settle the tiebreak between the Seahawks and the Packers for the three seed. Unfortunately the two teams do not ply each other this year so we must use the best conference record. Since the Seahawks go 8-4 in conference play and the packers go 7-5, the Seahawks earn the three seed and the Packers earn the four seed.
There are three wild card spots available. The 49ers and Cardinals are guaranteed a spot and either the Vikings or Buccaneers will get the last spot. Unfortunately, the Eagles will miss out on the playoffs this year. We know that the 49ers and Cardinals went 1-1 against each other and had a 3-3 record in the division. Now we most look at record in common games. In common games, both teams went 7-1 so we now must look at conference record. They both also went 7-5 in conference play so we now must look at strength of victory. The 49ers strength of victory is .449 and the Cardinals is .409 so the 49ers earn the five seed and the Cardinals earn the six seed. Now the 7th spot is up for grabs between the Vikings and Buccaneers who both went 9-7. They happened to play each other in week 14. The Buccaneers won so Brady and Bucs grab the final spot.
